status meetings are bad ideas

The standard status meeting is a dinosaur left over from the era where in person communication was the primary way of transferring information from one resource to another. Today most of the information transfer occurs between humans and our devices and our devices are very good at displaying the status of things.

In your personal life, how many of us go to a physical bank and discuss the current balance on our accounts with another human being? Do you call someone to find out the delivery status of your Amazon package?

We live in an era of self-serve pay-at-the-pump and self checkout experiences. Why then do we keep the status meeting alive at work?
